Classroom Instructor
In the classroom, I use theatre to facilitate students in the exploration of self and their role in society by creating an environment in which my students and I celebrate each other’s strengths while assisting each other through challenges. I draw on personal experiences through participatory exercises and sharing in order to gain insight into my students’ talents and skills. Simultaneously, I facilitate class cohesion through ensemble-building techniques, cooperative learning opportunities, and intentional structures for open and honest communication. I establish a healthy sense of risk and high expectation by teaching through questions, rewarding correct answers with follow-up questions, and assessing progress through experiential projects, formal and informal writing, and announced and unannounced quizzes. At the same time, I am sensitive to students’ learning differences and create alternative assignments for students who demonstrate motivation and effort. I hope my students leave my classroom with a greater capacity to accept the beauty and improve the flaws they see in the mirror. If so, I have fulfilled my potential as an educator.
